The World Travel Awards, also known as the Oscars of the travel industry, have now taken place for the 28th time. This year, the vote for the leading resort in Finland favoured Holiday Club Saimaa, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary – it participated in the awards programme for the first time and won the prestigious Finland’s Leading Resort Award.

“Thank you very much to all of you who voted for us. It feels very good that our customers in Finland and around the world appreciate and enjoy their holidays in Finland. “The award shows that we are doing the right things and that people enjoy the experiences we offer while they are here on holiday,” says Anne Kaarnijärvi, Resort Manager at Holiday Club Saimaa.

Impressive versatility

The Saimaa region is known for its pristine nature and beautiful lake scenery, which is an enchanting experience for Finns, and even exotic for foreign guests. However, it alone is not enough to win the hearts of tourists. A combination of peace, nature, high-quality accommodation and diverse activities make people return to the shores of Lake Saimaa.

“On the same trip, you can play on a full-length golf course, hike in nature, spend time in the unique spa and even skate on an NHL-sized ice rink. In addition, we offer excellent opportunities for meetings, celebrations and corporate events, as well as a number of restaurants, such as the high-quality Le Biff, which has been awarded the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs shield,” says Kaarnijärvi.

Historic milieu

The history of the area gives the resort its own unique twist, as a wellness spa and the Rauha Hospital have previously operated on the site. The premises have since been completely renovated and, for example, the main building of the former hospital has been converted into the Castle Hotel with stunning views over Lake Saimaa from the upper floors.

Outi Nylund, Chief Customer Experience Officer, says that Holiday Club Saimaa accommodates about 3,500 customers at a time. There are many different types of accommodation, from hotel rooms to different kinds of holiday homes. The selection includes the New England-style Gant Hotel and the Pavilion’s luxurious suites, along with the spacious family rooms at the Club Hotel. You can enjoy a wide range of holiday homes either by renting or buying a timeshare for yourself.

“We want the visit to Saimaa to always be a comprehensive experience for the customer. We offer a great setting for holidays, corporate events and big concerts. We have worked hard on this, and the award also shows to our dedicated employees that our work has been successful. In addition, this fantastic award will of course crown our 10th anniversary,” Nylund says.
